Australia Day
Happy Australia Day!
  Â
Well I have been a bit slack lately in posting to this blog - even though I have enjoyed having a few weeks off on holidays!  Which has been great to spend some time with my husband and family and catching up with friends :)  Whilst I have been on holidays I have been busy, busy (as usual! lol), working on a some renovations to the studio (and the house) and also some other photographic work and projects (non portrait related, so I won’t post on this blog - as have already posted some of them up on my other photography blog) - of course I can never go too long without a camera in my hand! lol ;)
So to kick off 2009 (although it is already a few weeks into it ;) ) - and to celebrate Australia Day - a collage I had fun playing around with, of some of my Australiana themed images . . .  Enjoy your Australia Day celebrations!

Redlands 11th Annual Photographic Exhibition - very excited with the results!
What a way to end a very exciting week!  Last night was the Redlands 11th Annual Photographic Exhibition opening night and presentations - the Exhibition competition is open to all photographers who are residents of Redlands City with all proceeds going to youth charity activities for the local community. It was great to see lots of amazing work by some very talented photographers on display from the local area as well as around Australia, as the Redlands National exhibition was held at the same time - and thanks to a very hard working support team that organises the event each year.
I am still pinching myself, and was very happy to receive awards for 1st and 2nd place in People Prints; 1st and 2nd place in Photojournalism Digital, 2nd place in People Digital and 2nd place in Nature Digital.   And there is more … (lol) - all the 1st place winners from each category are then judged to select Exhibition Champion Print and Champion Digital - and blow me down - I was amazed to win both!  Now on the funny side, for friends who know me will not be surprised - but I am actually a bit uncomfortable being in the spotlight on occasions like this, so I couldn’t get up to the stage and back fast enough when it was my turn to receive my awards - nearly tripping in my rush to get back to my seat!  Â
A special thank you to my friends and clients whose images were exhibited and to share some of my photographs from the night:
1st Place - People Prints and Champion Print

2nd Place - People Prints

1st Place - Photojournalism / Social Documentary and Champion Digital

 2nd Place - People Digital

On a more personal note - I was so happy that both my Mum and Dad were able to come along to the exhibition, even though they both are getting on in years and have not been very well.  My Dad gave me my first camera many years ago, so I was thrilled that Dad got to see a photograph I took of him in his workshop hanging in the exhibition (below) - even though it did not receive a major award - seeing how proud my Dad was meant more to me than any of the trophies.

Now you could say that it is actually quite ‘rare’ that you will see a photograph of me anywhere (as I am far more comfortable behind the lens, than in front of it) - but because I guess I have named this blog ‘from both sides of the lens’, I should post one up.  Thanks to Victoria Purdie for taking this photograph below on the night.  You can’t half tell that I love black and white (I think I even look better in b & w! lol)

Sydney - last stop on the tour
Sydney, NSW was the last stop on the tour before we head homeward bound.  Four days in Sydney were mainly taken up with working on the project with not a lot of free time to explore - and the few moments of spare time, unfortunately the inclement weather was not inspirational for photo opportunities.   However on the last night we all went out to dinner to a restaurant at the Italian Forum - some fab italian food and interesting things to look at in the windows of the boutiques in the arcade.   One of the boutiques in the arcade was this amazing little place with Italian and Venetian masks, ornaments etc - would have loved to have gone back during the day when the shop was open to have a closer look (especially for some interesting props for the studio).   However had to be content to just ’window shop’! ;)

Even though it is great to travel and see different places and things - there is nothing quite like the simple pleasures of home - like sleeping in your own bed and being with family and friends :)Â Â Now the tour is over, so looking forward to being homeward bound!
