a few days in Melbourne
Have been in Melbourne for a few days working on a special project and it certainly is cold down here at the moment!! (so glad I remembered to pack the thermals ;) ). I love visiting different places and looking around with fresh eyes - and I always think it is funny the things that you notice. For example coming from sunny Queensland, which is known for its hot humid summers, I thought ice cream was a popular treat for summer only. However after walking around Melbourne last night, I have never seen so many ice cream and gelato shops in the one place - and to top it off so many people walking around in the middle of winter rugged up in their coats, scarves and beanies eating ice cream! lol
Even though I have been pretty busy with work on the project - I have managed to find a little bit of time for some shots of subjects that just caught my eye while out on some short walks.

studio portrait shoot - before heading off to Barcelona, Spain
Well part of me would like to be writing that it was me heading off to enjoy the scenics of summer in Barcelona ;) but alas no - it was Mark, my client for this portrait shoot.  I had the opportunity yesterday to fit in a special portrait session for Mark before he leaves on the weekend, as he wanted some portraits for his Mum and family as a gift before he left - what a thoughtful son.  Mind you, we did joke that as he could be away for quite a while, that he wanted them to remember what he looked liked! lol
We had fun shooting some more formal type shots as well as some relaxed ones (once he relaxed that is - which I reassured him was often pretty normal when shooting one on one under the studio lights, until you get into the session - by the end Mark was like a real pro ;) .  Mark was such an interesting person to talk to during the shoot - especially about his travels and great job that he was starting in Barcelona in a few weeks.  Wishing him a wonderful and enjoyable time in Spain! To share some shots from the session:

history alive at fort lytton
The day started off very dreary, with rain in the early hours of the morning - yes I was up early again as had some work to do on the computer and find that I focus better when the house is quiet and everyone is asleep ;)  We had planned to go to the ‘history alive’ day at Fort Lytton today, but watching the rain outstide it did not look too promising at 5.00am.
By about 8.30am it had cleared up a bit, even though it was still overcast - we decided to venture off to the event anyway - and so glad that we did!  ‘History Alive’ is an annual event that is held at the Fort Lytton National Park at the mouth of the Brisbane River - and there were lots of people in authentic dress and a number of different re-enactments taking place, varying from romans, knights, military and other eras of history.  With the rain last night and this morning it was quite wet and boggy walking around - but that never phases me when there are interesting subjects to photograph - a bit of mud washes off right ;)
Even though the light was a bit flat and dull for the majority - the sun did peak itself out from behind the clouds for moments - enough to capture a few shots of the day.   To fit in with the era and theme, I decided to process these in sepia tones and to share, here are a few of my favourite images from the event:
